Be patient

December 10, 2013

James 5:7-10

Be patient, therefore, beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near. Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors! As an example of suffering and patience, beloved, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

With the hustle and go, go, go of these days prior to the season of Christmas, why do we drive ourselves crazy?

The words here in the book of James, I personally find comfort and meaning. Being patient…
Being still…
There are so many things in our lives that distract us from what is important.
Is peace of mind important?
I think it is.
Is slowing down and preparing a place for the incarnate Lord important?
I think it is.
During this season of Advent, what is important for us to remember?
We all have so such to be thankful for in this world… The changing of the seasons… those in our lives…the fact the God has not turned his back on creation.
God loves creation so much that in a couple weeks we will celebrate the memorial of Jesus’ birth. As one of the creeds say that Jesus humbled him to be born of a woman. Part of me has had an issue with. How else would he come into the world?
From those words and the women in the stories of Jesus, we know that from before the incarnation women important to the life and ministry of Jesus.
My Mother taught me to be patient and I cherish those lessons. As Christmas draws near, be patient with everyone we encounter, so that they may see Christ in us and we see Christ in them.
